Frequently asked questions
Does Research Buddy search the internet?
Only if you approve it for that particular run. Live web research is off by default, and Research Buddy is the only place in CorpGPT that can reach the public web — ordinary chat and generated content answer only from your own trained documents.
How long does research take?
Typically 3–8 minutes for a Quick run, 12–20 for Focused, and 25–45 for Thorough. You don't have to wait on the page — it runs in the background and notifies you the moment the report is ready.
Can I trust the answer?
Every claim is cited — numbered citations for public sources and your own documents cited by name — so you can verify it yourself. Every report also ends with its methodology, limitations, open questions and follow-ups, and web sources older than 18 months are flagged as potentially stale.
What if the research can't find enough?
It tells you plainly rather than inventing an answer. Research Buddy is built to show what's supported and what's disputed — not to fill gaps with confident guesses.
Does my research end up in my knowledge base?
Only when you approve it. Choose a destination, confirm, and the report is added and trained so you can search and chat with it later. Until then, nothing is stored.
Can I research my own documents and the web together?
Yes. Pin specific documents, include your whole knowledge base, and approve the live web — in any combination. When sources disagree, your pinned documents are weighed first.
